Oil and hand made ochre paint on hessian.
Painted in the year of the Icelandic Volcano. The Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland in 2010 stopped flights across Europe. I was stuck in my beautiful friends house in Mas de Cadignac in the South of France and the sunsets were breathtaking. I travelled to Roussillon and found the incredible raw ochre pigments of the region at the fantastic Ochre Museum.
Back at the studio I ground and mixed my own paints and a series of works with these rich warm colours grew. There are very few of these pieces left now.
